Professor Gao is currently a director of Engineering Research Center of Ministry of Education for Process Equipment and Remanufacturing, and a director of Collaborative Innovation Center for Nuclear Power Equipment of Zhejiang University of Technology He has been a visiting scholar at Technical University of Berlin (Germany) and Northwestern University (USA).He is also the executive director of Pressure Vessel Branch and Reliability Engineering Branch of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, member of Fixed Vessel Branch of National Boiler and Pressure Vessel Standard Committee, and director of Zhejiang Mechanical Engineering Society. He is interested in the research and application of equipment safety and reliability analysis, life assessment and failure analysis, and the research and development of high-efficiency process equipment. He has undertaken more than 10 projects such as National Fund, 863 projects, sub-projects of National Key Research and Development Program, and nearly 100 projects entrusted by enterprises; published more than 200 papers, won 24 national invention patents, 1 National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize (4th), 2 Provincial Science and Technology Progress First Prize (1st).
